Consists primarily of memoirs composed by Eveline Auerbach in 1919-1923, and later expanded by her son, Herbert S. Auerbach, recounting her family history, and giving a detailed anecdotal account of her life in several western towns, especially Salt Lake City. She also describes her travel experiences, including several trips to the eastern U.S. and to Europe. Her memoirs touch on business and social conditions, relations among religious groups, and descriptions of geographical features.

Samuel Hillel Auerbach, of Jewish descent, was born in Fordon am der Weichel, Germany, in 1847. In 1862 he migrated to the United States, joining his brothers in business as merchants in the California mining country, and eventually settling in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he carried on a prosperous dry goods business with his brothers. Eveline Brooks Auerbach, of Jewish descent, was the first caucasian child born in the California mining town of Timbuctoo in 1859. Her family lived as merchants in various towns and camps in the western U.S., eventually settling in Salt Lake City. In 1879 she married Samuel H.
