Letters regarding art collecting, 1797-1833.

Select letters, several addressed to Dawson Turner, the famed antiquarian, from his large collection of correspondence. Subjects range from the collecting of coins, medals, ancient gems, and reproductive engravings to the early history of art auctions held at Christie's. Also includes a fire insurance policy (1827) for pictures belonging to His Majesty; a prospectus (1831) for William Camden Edwards' engravings of coins; and two prospectuses and a newspaper clipping about a new town, St. Leonards designed by architects James and Decimus Burton.
