Accademia de'Pittori Cremonesi con alcuni Scultori ed Architetti pur Cremonesi, ca. 1715-1720.

The first volume begins with twenty pages numbered with Roman numerals, which comprise: the title page (including the note of Francesco Arisi), the table of artists (236 "Professori di Disegno"), the table of the authors quoted in the book (102 names) and a short list of authors "who criticized and refuted Vasari." These are followed by a "Dichiarazione dell'Opera presente," in which the author states that the main incentive for writing this book was to avenge the Cremonese artists ignored by Vasari who is criticized throughout. The artists presented in the first volume (almost all painters) are in rough chronological order, from the 14th to the 17th century. Each biography lists bibliographic sources at the end. The text is heavily edited. Some chapters have been crossed-out and rewritten, or copied with few changes in fascicles included further in the book (e.g. the six sisters Anguissola and the three Carracci). New versions were written on the left column, then crossed-out and new ones were entered between the lines.

Desiderio Arisi, a monk of the S. Girolamo congregation, was descended from an old, notorious family documented since the 15th century in Cremona. Like his more famous brother Francesco, he dedicated his monachal life to study. He wrote a compilation of the most important paintings in the churches and public places in Cremona, and another of public inscriptions in that city.
