Excerpts from a Georgetown University Summer School course on the science and technology of superconductivity [videorecording] / recorded by Georgetown University ; 1971.

Includes portions of a panel discussion on superconductivity primarily concerning the relationships between theoretical and experimental research in the field. Some of the topics discussed are the impact of the Bardeen, Cooper, Schrieffer (BCS) theory on experimental work in superconductivity, McMillan's work on transition temperatures, and the development of new materials that can become superconducting. A significant portion of the discussion (17 min.) centers on Bernd Matthias criticism of the theorists who contend that McMillan's work made significant contributions to the development of new materials for raising superconducting transition temperatures in the preceeding years. Panel members were: Judith Bostock, Howard Coffey, Bascom Deaver, William Gregory, William Hamilton, Alberto Martinelli, Bernd Matthias, Juri Mattisou, Douglas Scalapino, James Schooley, Sidney Shapiro, Watt Webb. Also includes a classroom lecture by Felix Bloch on Josephson junctions. (Tapes two and three are copies from tape one: tape two contains the Matthias discussion segment only; tape three contains the Bloch lecture segment only).

3 videocassettes (140 min.) : sd.b&w ; 1/2 in.
