[Landscape with a calm] [graphic]. 1999.

One drypoint and four color etchings after the painting Landscape with a calm, by Nicolas Poussin. The prints were executed in three stages, printed in different colored inks and on different papers. The first was executed in drypoint from a zinc plate, using a dark brown or black ink on white paper. The second and third, both from the same plate, are color etchings with aquatint, using green ink on white paper, and brown ink on tan paper respectively. The fourth and fifth prints, made from a third plate with a combination of etching and aquatint, are in red ink on tan paper, and dark brown ink on tan paper respectively.

5 prints : drypoint, etching, aquatint, col. ; ca. 57.5 x 71 cm., in frames ca. 66 x 76.5 cm.

British painter Leon Kossoff was invited in 1998 by the J. Paul Getty Museum to work from the newly acquired painting Landscape with a calm, or Paysage au temps calme, by Nicolas Poussin (97.PA.60). Kossoff had previously made etchings and drawings inspired by Nicolas Poussin's paintings, notably during the Poussin retrospective held at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, in 1995.
