Second fils d’Henri de La Tour d’Auvergne, duc de Bouillon, prince régnant de Sedan (1555-1623), un des chefs du parti protestant sous Henri IV, et d’Élisabeth de Nassau, Henri de La Tour d’Auvergne, vicomte de Turenne (1611-1675), fut formé par Maurice de Nassau. Passé au service de la France, il prit part à la guerre de Trente Ans en Flandre, sur le Rhin et en Italie. Il prit Turin aux Espagnols en 1640.
