John Ruskin papers, ca. 1837-1904.

Collection consists of a significant body of letters covering most of Ruskin's creative years. Included are two draft manuscript lecture fragments on engraving and Greek art, printed lecture proofs with corrections and annotations on "The Pleasures of Faith" and the Pre-Raphaelites (1883-1884), and portrait photographs of Ruskin.

William Holman Hunt was an English artist and painter. Despite his father's objections, he sought a career as an artist, and studied art at the Royal Academy, where he met Millais and Rossetti; the three of them co-founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Sir Henry Wentworth Acland (1815-1900) was a physician. In 1834 Acland matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford, he graduated B.A. in 1840, M.A. in 1842, M.B. in 1846, and M.D. in 1848. In 1840 he was elected fellow of All Souls' College and, in the same year, commenced the study of medicine, entering himself at St. George's Hospital, London.
