Ten ALS written by members of the Brimblecom family to other family members. A letter from Samuel Brimblecom, Grafton, Massachusetts, to his sister Sarah Brimblecom, Lynn, Massachusetts, 1849, discusses plans made by his sons Edward and Frederic for travel to California, their prospects for gold mining, and possible dangers. A letter dated 1852 from Edward Brimblecom, Lee, Ogle County, Illinois, to his sister Lucy, Grafton, describes his life in Illinois and his work as a farmer. Three letters were written by Frederic Brimblecom, Grafton, to his sister Lucy following her departure from Grafton, 1854-1855. These letters, including one enclosing a letter to Lucy from Frederic's wife Abby, give detailed news of family and friends in Grafton and briefly discuss news of family members and friends in California and Michigan. A letter from Frederic to his brother Edward, 1855, describes Frederic's involvement in local politics and his service as moderator of the Town Meeting in Grafton. Other letters are from Frederic to his mother, 1852, discussing his recent marriage to Abby and other family news; Harriet Brimblecom to her son Samuel, 1856, regarding the birth of Samuel's son; and from Alden Buttrick, 1st Michigan Infantry, Newport News, Virginia, to his cousin, Lucy, 1862, discussing his experiences as a soldier in the Peninsular Campaign during the Civil War.
