Copies of documents from the Fourth Mexican Provincial Council : Mexico City, 1771.

Copies of documents relating to the Fourth Mexican Provincial Council held under the presidency of Archbishop, later Cardinal, Francisco Antonio de Lorenzana. The first part, p. 1-149, consists of excerpts copied from the adverse comments on the work of the Council written by the Peruvian Fiscal, Don Pedro de Piña y Mazo. These excerpts are directed chiefly against the work prepared by Antonio Joaquín de Ribadeneyra y Barrientos, Asistente Real of the Council. The second part, p. 150 f., contains apparently the complete text of the five books of Actas, or Decrees, approved by the Council, and concerns the rules governing religious and moral life in Mexico. The majority of these rules are of a varied ecclesiastical nature, but Book II is devoted to legal matters, and Book IV deals with matrimony. The original document was signed in Mexico City on October 26, 1771, by Lorenzana and others.

Originals : 773 p. ; 32 cm.Copies : partial microfilm reel (388 exposures) : negative (Rich. 416:11) and positive.
