He moved to Washington DC in 1848 and worked as a librarian in various branches of government, including the War Department, the Copyrights Division of the Department of State, the executive library of President Fillmore, and the Interior Department. Jacob S. Boreman, lawyer, legislator, and newspaper editor in Kansas City, Missouri, was appointed Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Utah Territory in 1873. He was the brother of Arthur I.
