Copies of letters (1776-1778) of Luis de Unzaga y Amézaga, and Bernardo de Gálvez to Joseph de Gálvez transmitting correspondence of Charles Lee, George Morgan, and Patrick Henry relating to Spain and the American Revolution. Includes English translations of some of the letters. Also includes a transcript of proclamation in French (1777) relating to taxes and a printed play ("Rendido y Fiel Obsequio en Festiva Demonstracion de los Felices Dias del Excmo. Señor D. Bernardo Galvez, Conde de Galvez") by Nicolás del Monte (Mexico, 1786).

Luis de Unzaga y Amézaga was the first Spanish Louisiana governor (1769 - 1777). Born in Malaga, Spain, he joined the military early in his life, taking part in the military operations of Charles of Naples against Austria. In 1769 he was appointed governor of Louisiana to succeed Alexander O'Reilly, who had incurred the disfavor of creoles and was removed by home government.
