Edward Rawson letter and instructions, 1662-1676.

A letter written by John Mason, et al., from the Massachusetts Bay Council about Pawcatuck, Connecticut. The letter was signed by Edward Rawson. The instructions were written by Rawson, secretary of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, to agents William Stoughton and Peter Bulkeley. The men were sent to England to present the Colony defense in reference to the claims of heirs of Ferdinando Gorges and John Mason.

Rawson was the first Secretary of the Massachusetts Bay Colony (1650-1686). He was born in Dorset, England; he married Rachel Perne before coming to America.
