Marie Hartig Kendall was born in 1854 in Alsace Lorraine, the daughter of a French mother and a German father. She emigrated to the U.S. in 1872 with her siblings. By 1880 she was married to Dr. John C. Kendall of Norfolk, Conn. She was a talented photographer who took artistic views of the countryside of northwestern Connecticut, particularly the area around Norfolk.
