The Florida State College for Women (FSCW) Artist Series began in 1923. Dean Ella Opperman was the first person in charge of organizing the series. The series was intended to bring renowned artists to FSCW. After FSCW became Florida State University (FSU), the FSU School of Music managed the series. Dexter Morgan Easton was born on September 13, 1921 in Pigeon Cove, Maine. He received his BA from Clark University and a PhD from Harvard. He was a Fulbright fellow in New Zealand and an instructor at Washington University in Seattle before joining the faculty of the Department of Biological Science at Florida State University in 1956. Designated Professor Emeritus in 2004, he continued to conduct research and publish until his death in 2010. From the description of Dexter M. Easton...
