Luther Emerson Robinson papers, for an unpublished "Lincoln Anthology." ca. 1933-1935.

The collection consists of the work through many stages of Robinson's draft headnotes, 1832-1858, as well as galleys of selections, 1832-1865. Contains 8 folders, mostly chronologically arranged, including one small folder for Robinson's unrelated projects. Includes folders on the Lincoln-Douglas debates and some of Lincoln's speeches.

Luther Emerson Robinson taught English at Monmouth College in Illinois and was simultaneously a public librarian. His main works were Abraham Lincoln as a Man of Letters (1918) and a textbook, History of Illinois (1909). In 1933 he was invited by Rufus Rockwell Wilson, of the Press of the Pioneers, in New York, to compile "A Lincoln Anthology," which was never published. Abraham Lincoln (born February 12, 1809, Sinking Spring Farm near Hodgenville, Kentucky-died April 15, 1865, Washington, D.C.) was the sixteenth President of the United States from 1861 until his death by assassination.
