Ira J. Chase was Governor of Indiana, 1891-1893. His wife was Rhoda Jane Chase. They were the parents of Electa who married Horace G. Murphy. Electa and Horace Murphy adopted a daughter, Mary Elizabeth. She married Charles G. Hampton in 1924. Material in the collection was handed down from Rhoda to Electa and then to Mary Elizabeth. Chase, Ira J. (Ira Joy), 1834-1895

Ira J. Chase was lieutenant governor of Indiana, 1889-1891 and governor, 1891-1893. Prior to that, he was a minister in churches in Illinois, Indiana, and Pennsylvania. He served in the 19th Ohio Volunteer Regiment during the Civl War. He was married to Rhoda J. Castle Chase. They were the parents of three children. From the description of Ira J.
