Ira J. Chase was lieutenant governor of Indiana, 1889-1891 and governor, 1891-1893. Prior to that, he was a minister in churches in Illinois, Indiana, and Pennsylvania. He served in the 19th Ohio Volunteer Regiment during the Civl War. He was married to Rhoda J. Castle Chase. They were the parents of three children.
