Stephen Lauber was an employee of the Peerless Bread Machine Company in Sidney, Ohio for 37 years, and was in charge of customer files for part of that time. When the company decided it no longer wanted these letters, Lauber brought them home and stored them in his basement for twenty years until he retired and found time to go through them in order to contact local historical societies around the country to see if they wished to acquire them for their collections.
