Peerless Bread Machine Company
Stephen Lauber was an employee of the Peerless Bread Machine Company in Sidney, Ohio for 37 years, and was in charge of customer files for part of that time. When the company decided it no longer wanted these letters, Lauber brought them home and stored them in his basement for twenty years until he retired and found time to go through them in order to contact local historical societies around the country to see if they wished to acquire them for their collections. The Peerless Group, as the company is known by today, was founded in 1907 as the Standard Clutch Manufacturing Company, which was an iron foundry. In 1913 it became the Peerless Bread Machine Company and manufactured a loaf molding machine, adding new products as the company grew. In 1936 they became known as Peerless Bread Machinery Corporation until 1971, when they changed to Peerless Machinery Corp. During the late nineteen eighties and nineties the company went through several location and name changes as they acquired new assets in various cities around the country. In 2008 the Illinois Tool Works Inc. bought the company, which continues to operate out of their expanded original Sidney, Ohio location in late 2011.
