Papers, 1967-2006

The Galen L. Geer Papers date from 1967 to 2006. They consist of the September and October 1980 issues of Soldier of Fortune magazine, which include the signed articles "Assignment Afghanistan" and "Jihad in Afghanistan." The first article deals with a new weapon, the AKS-74 and its ammunition. The second is a historical account of political instability in Afghanistan with an emphasis on tribal factions. These articles are the result of eleven days Geer spent with Afghan rebels engaged in a holy war with the Russians. Also included are several pieces of biographical information and a facsimile copy of P.A. Clancey's 1967 book, Gamebirds of Southern Africa.
