Hoping she has received a copy of his Lord of the Isles, which was sent to her by the printer; mentioning that two of his children contracted smallpox despite receiving both vaccinations and inoculations against the disease; promising to tell her what he knows about the author of [Waverly] when he sees her next in London; regretting that he was unable to travel to the continent the previous spring; assuring her that his trip to Ireland was only twenty-four hours long and that he was therefore unable to visit her at Barons Court; saying that he thinks the Lord of the Isles is to be is "last poetical adventure at least upon a large scale."
