Andrew Jackson, 7th President of the United States. William C. C. Claiborne practiced law in Tennessee and became judge of the Superior Court of Tennessee in 1796. He became governor of the Territory of Mississippi in 1801 and was appointed to receive Louisiana from France in 1803. David Banister Morgan (1773-1848) served in the Louisiana territorial legislature, was a member of the Constitutional convention, and after the admission of Louisiana to the Union, was in the state legislature. He was surveyor-general of Louisiana and Mississippi, and a commander of troops on the west bank of the Mississippi River under Andrew Jackson between 1814 and 1815 during the Battle of New Orleans.
