Morgan, David Banister, 1773-1848
Variant namesDavid Banister Morgan (1773-1848) served in the Louisiana territorial legislature, was a member of the Constitutional convention, and after the admission of Louisiana to the Union, was in the state legislature. He was surveyor-general of Louisiana and Mississippi, and a commander of troops on the west bank of the Mississippi River under Andrew Jackson between 1814 and 1815 during the Battle of New Orleans. He later owned land in St. Tammany Parish. David Morgan died July 15, 1848 in Covington, La.

David B. Morgan, a politician and soldier, arrived in Louisiana in 1803. He served in the territorial legislature, the constitutional convention, and later the Louisiana legislature after the state's admission to the Union. He was also the surveyor general for Louisiana and Mississippi, and commanded the militia of those states, as brigadier general, during the Battle of New Orleans. David Morgan died July 15, 1848 in Covington, La.
