Discussing the terrible weather, remarking that it feels "like Christmas though the Almanack maintains to my very face that it is the 26th of April" and noting that there is no food for any of the animals; hoping that she received the copy of his Life of Dryden; regretting that he cannot locate a copy of the "Elgin Epistles," which were not printed in Scotland and noting that "it is a pity such edifying communications of love & devotion should be lost to the public;" saying that his travels southward depend on the Scotch Judicature Bill and whether he is appointed Clerk to the Commissioners; reporting that the Whigs are furious but "with very little reason;" saying he is "flattered with Lawrence's approbation of Marmion;" mentioning mutual acquaintances.
