Thanking her for "the kind and liberal protection" she has given him; referencing his brother's theft of the Duddingstone rents and Scott's promise to pay them, noting that he is "not likely to be a sufferer beyond the extent of the small sum" that Scott lent to his brother; discussing Lord Melville's "good intentions towards me;" hoping that she has received his previous letter and Marmion, noting an edit he has made to the text.
