Reporting that he will depart for Scotland the following day and hoping that Ellis will visit Scott in Reged. Regretting that he did not begin his trip that day, citing the illness of his traveling companion Ballantyne. Alluding to the impeachment trial of Lord Melville, saying that his misfortunes affect Scott deeply.
