William Wallace, Jr. was born in Syracuse, New York, on January 28, 1864, the son of William and Helen Carpenter Wallace. He began high school at the age of ten, and, although he never matriculated at Harvard, he passed the finals at the age of fifteen. From 1879 to 1880 he worked on his father's sheep ranch in Montana. Elizabeth "Lizzie" Floweree was born in Helena on March 14, 1872, the daughter of Daniel A. G. and Elizabeth Floweree. Her mother died in 1882 and her father remarried in 1885. Elizabeth married William Wallace Jr. on December 4, 1889. They had one daughter, Elizabeth, born about 1890. William Wallace moved his law practice to New York City in the 1910s and remained there the rest of his life. Elizabeth Wallace died in New York on July 13, 1936.
