Wallace, William, 1864-1939.
William Wallace, Jr. was born in Syracuse, New York, on January 28, 1864, the son of William and Helen Carpenter Wallace. He began high school at the age of ten, and, although he never matriculated at Harvard, he passed the finals at the age of fifteen. From 1879 to 1880 he worked on his father's sheep ranch in Montana.
Wallace was admited to the Montana Bar in 1882 and practiced with J. K. and E. W. Toole. Over the years he was partners with various other attorneys and also practiced alone. He was for many years divisional counsel for the Northern Pacific Railway. He was also involved with S. T. Hauser and A. M. Holter in the development of hydro-electric power along the Missouri River. During World War I he worked for the Enemy Alien Bureau. He died October 25, 1939.
