Cornwallis papers. 1614-1854.

The present collection of Cornwallis papers in The Public Records Office consists of 291 boxes and bundles. The Library has microfilm of 283 bundles. This film includes papers relating to America, bundles 1-7,58,60-100, 270, 275, and 277 (14 reels, which are calendared in George H. Reese, The Cornwallis Papers: Abstracts of Americana (Charlottesville, Va., 1970). The material here consists primarily of Lt. Gen. Cornwallis' (1738-1805) official correspondence as commander in chief in the Southern Department, 1780-81.
