Autograph letter signed : place not specified, to George Ellis, [1805 Sept. 5 or Oct. 17].

Apologizing for his delayed response, citing the fine weather; wishing that Ellis had visited him in Reged that year; reporting that he had several booksellers visiting; referencing Rees's forthcoming Chronicles, but noting that the work "should be edited by an Englishman who can have access to the MSS. of Oxford and Cambridge, as one cannot trust much to the correctness of printed copies." Discussing his present work on an edition of John Dryden's Works, which has already gone to press; saying his work will take him to London in the Spring; discussing a discovery made by Robert James when copying the poem of True Thomas and the Queen of Elfland (by Thomas the Rhymer) and points regarding some 15th century romances made by Robert Southey on a recent visit.
