Olin was born August 25, 1839. He enlisted in Company B, 3rd Wisconsin Regiment on May 1, 1862, as a resident of Northfield, Rice County, Minnesota. He later served as First Lieutenant with the 3rd Minnesota Regiment. After service in the military he became a physician in Detroit, Michigan. Clowney, of Mineral Point, Wisconsin, enlisted August 9, 1862 as a major with the 30th Wisconsin Regiment, and in 1864 was stationed at Fort Snelling.
