Apologizing for his delay in responding. Noting that his "literary amusements have of late been much retarded and interrupted," partly due to professional avocations and partly due to moving into a new house, and describing the clamor of the builders and the cries of his baby son. Mentioning that Leyden is copying part of "Arthour" and discussing the arrangement of "Sir Tristram." Discussing at length his reasons for disagreeing with Douce's arguments relating to the French and English poems. Saying he is glad that he and Mrs. Ellis "have derived any amusement from the House of Aspen" sketch, and discussing it and other dramatic sketches, as well as additional medieval romances, manuscripts, and publication matters. Mentioning mutual acquaintances.
