The papers of this contemporary American science fiction writer are dominated by manuscripts of novels and movie screenplays. Related to his work as a screenwriter there are clippings, memorandum, conceptual drawings, architectural drawings, color negatives, storyboards, scripts, photographs, videotapes, crew lists, production stills, production schedules, typescripts, notes, and a small amount of film-related correspondence. The manuscripts include typescripts for novels, stories, and film treatments including Blue champagne, Entropy, Air raid, The gate, Galaxy, Labyrinth, Millennium, Have spacesuit, will travel, Press enter, The master, The ophiuchi hotline, Titan, The Phantom of Kansas, The persistence of vision, The pusher, Tango Charlie and foxtrot Romeo, Steel beach, and Wizard. All of the production materials are from the Millennium project. There are 63 drawings and blueprints for the Millennium set including the council room, control room, and sketches of the various sets. Also included is one color poster for the film.

John Varley was born in Austin, TX. in 1947 and attended Michigan State Univ. Varley's science fiction works include The Ophiuchi hotline, Titan, and a collection of short stories entitled, The persistence of vision.
