Biographical information concerns Mr. Workman's family. Two manuscripts were written before he attended Davidson. Additional manuscripts available in Henry T. Lilly collection. Correspondence is between Mr. Workman and his family. Printed material is chiefly programs from operas and recitals, including performances with the Charlotte Opera Assoc., Metropolitan Opera House, Frankfurt Opera, and Santa Fe Opera. There are reviews of his performances; information on the Blain-Woods Memorial concert and Plott Memorial concert, where he performed with oboist Joseph Robinson (1962) under the direction of Zubin Mahta. Photographs are of Workman in concert, in operatic costume, and formal portraits. Memorabilia is from time in Germany. Recordings are reel-to-reel recordings from concerts and recitals. Oversize contains posters from operas and concerts. Workman, William, 1940-

William Workman was born in Georgia, but moved to Davidson, N.C., in 1951 when his father joined the Davidson College Psychology Department. He graduated from Davidson in 1962 and earned a degree in voice performance from the Curtis Institute of Music in 1965. Mr. Workman made his operatic debut in 1958, appearing as Morales in the Charlotte Opera Association's production of Carmen.
