Patrick B. and Annabel Carey Prescott papers, 1912-1970.

Correspondence, newspaper clippings, biographical material, and newsletters related to Patrick B. Prescott and Annabelle Carey Prescott. Patrick Prescott's papers relate to his career as lawyer, politician, and Judge of the Municipal Court of Chicago (Ill.), including his run for Republican Congressmen (circa 1944). Also included are materials from Prescott's involvement with the Four Minute Men (1917-1918) including certificates, correspondence, and fliers. The Four Minute Men were a group of volunteers inspired by President Wilson to give four minute speeches to inform and raise morale during World War I. The collection also contains a number of articles written by Prescott during his travels abroad noting the conditions of working class African Americans in London. Annabelle Prescott's papers, mostly newspaper clippings and correspondence, relate to her involvement in neighborhood organizations, her work as assistant principle of McKinley High School (Chicago, Ill.), and as Director of Human Relations for the Chicago Board of Education. Also included are materials related to Prescott's work on school integration.
