Correspondence, source documents, printed material, research papers, genealogical materials, and photographs, produced and gathered as the result of Esparza's historical and genealogical research. Much of the collection relates to the Esparza family and especially Gregorio Esparza (1808-1836), his sons, Enrique (1828-1917) and Francisco (ca. 1833-1887), and his granddaughter, Mother Maria Claude (1852-1915) of the Sisters of Charity of The Incarnate Word. Other topics include the role of Mexican Americans in the Texas Revolution and especially the role of Gregorio Esparza and others in the Battle of the Alamo; a Catholic church founded by the Esparza family in Atascosa County, Tex.; pioneer freighter and minister Policarpo Rodriguez; early San Antonio history; the Spanish missions of San Antonio; the Coy and Lee families; the Esparza family connection to Canary Islander settlers in San Antonio; and Reynaldo Esparza's experiences serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
