The Emmett Paige, Jr. Oral History Transcript consists of a 376 page transcribed oral history interview. In it, Paige discusses his recruitment, training, and assignment to Japan as a radio operator. He details experiences as an African American at a leadership school and Officer Candidate School (OCS). Paige briefly describes fellow officers he was stationed with in Germany and mentions people who influenced him early in his life. Paige discusses African American officers and racial issues in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in the Philippines, and according to Paige, relations between African Americans and blacks were good. He describes experiences during the Vietnam War. Paige gives his views on his time at the U.S. Army War College. He briefly describes his thoughts and experiences on achieving various ranks.

Lieutenant General (LTG) Emmett Paige, Jr. was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. He enlisted in the United States (U.S.) Army in 1947 and was commissioned through the Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey in 1952.
