Consists of a group of 39 documents, spanning the years 1766-1801, including 5 letters written by George Washington to Tobias Lear, 3 letters written by Martha Washington, and many papers relating to the estate of George Augustine Washington, the nephew and farm manager of George Washington. The papers, many of which concern domestic life in the presidential household, descended through the family of Washington's private secretary, Tobias Lear. They were a principal source for Stephen Decatur's book 'Private Affairs of George Washington' (Boston, 1933).
