Warrant creating Louise de Keroualle Duchess of Portsmouth, 1673.

Manuscript on paper, in a single hand, of the warrant granting Louise de Keroualle the titles of Baroness Petersfield, Countess of Fareham, and Duchess of Portsmouth. The manuscript also includes the amounts of creation money to be paid to her yearly. The text is written within an ornamental border, with a painted title page.

Louise-Renée de Kéroualle was made Duchess of Portsmouth and Aubigny by Charles II, King of England. The Duchess of Portsmouth was one of the king's mistresses. She was born in France and was sometimes considered his Catholic mistress, as opposed to his mistress Nell Gwynne, who considered herself Charles's "Protestant mistress."
