Autograph manuscript, signed, of Cobden's account of his interview with Lord Palmerston on his return on 29 Jun 1859 from America. Palmerston offered him the post of President of the Board of Trade with a seat in the cabinet; Cobden refused it on principle, to the surprise of Palmerston and his friends.
