Manuscript journal on paper of extensive travels in Europe and the Levant between April 1687 and January 1689. Subjects include meticulous details on travel arrangements; sights visited, particularly the holy places in Jerusalem and churches and palaces throughout the Levant; the illness and death of Ld Fanshawe at Aleppo in October, 1697 as well as the illness of Lord Kingston; Catholic customs and institutions in Italian cities and German Catholic principalities; and details of political and economic organizations in various locales. The journal also describes encounters with suspicious Ottoman officials; meetings with Arab herdsmen and guides and Maronite Christians; and the celebrations at Rhodes on the accession of Suleyman II. Chaloner notes at the end that "this cursory Journall is very imperfect, especially to what relates to France and a great part of Italy" owing to his loss in Italy of the journal he had kept on his previous journey in 1670. Bound with: A Relation of the Embassy of his Ex.cie the Earl of ffaucconberge, embassador extraordinary from King Charles the 2nd in 1670.....with his receptions, audiences, and other particularities relateing thereto....having the advantage of some particular Informations from my good and ingenious freind Mr. Doddington, Secretary to the Embassy.... :[1670].
