Monroe Wheeler was born on February 13, 1899 in Evanston, Illinois. Following an early career as a publicity writer, he established Harrison of Paris, a fine press, which was in operation from 1930-1935. He began work with the Museum of Modern Art in 1938, soon becoming director of exhibitions and publications. Wheeler died on August 14, 1988. From the description of Monroe Wheeler papers, 1890-1995.
