Monroe Wheeler was born on February 13, 1899 in Evanston, Illinois. Following an early career as a publicity writer, he established Harrison of Paris, a fine press, which was in operation from 1930-1935. He began work with the Museum of Modern Art in 1938, soon becoming director of exhibitions and publications. Wheeler died on August 14, 1988.
