Letter : Cleveland, Ohio, to Colonel John James Abert, Washington, D.C., 1853 Dec 30.

ALS to Colonel John James Abert of the United States Topographical Bureau in Washington, D.C., requesting travel to Washington to study the maps, plans, and estimates of the harbors in the Cleveland district in order to carry out orders for work to be done (presumably on the U.S. Lake Survey) under Captain Stanbury's supervision. One leaf contains signed notes dated 1853 and 1854, including Abert's recommendation and Secretary of War Jefferson Davis's denial of Stansbury's request.
