Diary, Dec 1776-15 Sept 1781.

Holograph diary containing six pages of entries dated 1776-1779 and ninety pages of entries dated 1 Jan-15 Sep 1781. Entries describe in detail the deaths of Maltby's brother and sister and his theological studies and spiritual preparation for the ministry. News of the Revolutionary War during 1781 is briefly related.

Jonathan Maltby graduated from Yale College in 1779. He continued his studies in theology and was licensed to preach by the New Haven Association in 1783. He served as pastor of the Congregational Church, College Street, New Haven, but left the ministry for health reasons. He worked in business, teaching, and farming in Connecticut and New York before retiring in Fair Haven, Connecticut. From the description of Diary, Dec 1776-15 Sept 1781. (Unknown).
