Journal of an Indian Scouting Expedition in the Sierra Diablo : holograph, [1854 or 1855] Nov 7-19.

Journal written in pencil on back of a small, colored, folding map entitled, "Map of the State of Texas from the Latest Authorities, by J. H. Young," Philadelphia: Published by Thomas, Cowperthwait & Co., 1850. Douglass lists the officers on the scouting party: Col. Bomford, Capt. Jordan, Lt. Stockton, Lt. Cole, and himself, with 80 men. The party traveled to the canyons of the Sierra Diablo via the Wild Rose Pass. They discovered scattered personal effects of previous scouting parties, found a conveyance of horses and mules, and encountered a party of Indians who fired at them from afar.
