Richard Frank Saunders, Jr., papers, 1950-2008.

The papers include personal and professional papers; his own school papers and those of the classes he taught; a great quantity of research materials, clippings, and notes on historical topics, especially those of Georgia history, his specialty; drafts and correspondence for each of the essays which comprise his and Dr. George A. Rogers work Swamp Water and Wiregrass. Other works include book reviews and public lectures. Other large research projects include those on Bishop John England (with Dr. Rogers) and on Governor & Senator Thomas Hardwick.

Richard Frank Saunders, Jr. (1934-2008) was the son of Frank Saunders, Sr., & Mrs. Mollie Lanier Saunders. He lived almost his entire life in the Portal community, Bulloch County, Georgia, on Saunders Road. He taught History at Georgia Southern (of which he was an alumnus, 1957) from 1969 to 1996, after several teaching jobs at lower-level schools, including Portal High.
