Letter: to The Hon. H. A. Wise / by Thomas Ap Catesby Jones, 1842 Nov 16.

Under the impression that the United States and Mexico were at war, Thomas Jones sailed from Callao to Monterey, California, with the Pacific Squadron and took possession of the town. This letter reports and defends his actions. He acknowledges that his presumption of authority would be criticized by Congress and the press.
