Joseph Warren Revere, grandson of Paul Revere, was born May 17, 1812, in Boston, Massachusetts. He joined the United States Navy at the age of 14. In 1846 he was stationed at the U.S. Military Post at Sonoma, California. In May 1848 Revere left California to go back to the East Coast, but returned that December after hearing the news of the discovery of gold.
