There are two documents relating to John James: one is an injunction against him, dated Dec. 29, 1852 in Austin, Texas (3 p.); the other is his answer to the petition of the German Colonization Society in 1853 (3 p.). There are four papers relating to Edward Kriegner: a character certificate from Merseburg, Germany, dated Aug. 31, 1846; a letter addressed to him from Dr. B. Hill Sept. 14, 1846 in Bremen, Germany, giving instructions on directing a group of immigrants to Texas; and 2 ALS from 1901 written by Kriegner to S. V. Pfeuffer. Another document is a writ to the sheriff of Bexar county, dated Oct. 6, 1851, ordering the sale of property of the German Emigration Company to satisfy a judgment in favor of F. L. Paschal, acting for Chauncey Johnson.

John James (1819-1877) was an early land surveyor and developer in Texas, arriving in 1837 from Nova Scotia .
